I need a Coco novel about Ernest and Hector & their younger days NOW.
Don’t worry, I’m working on delivering đ
tfw you wanna write fanfiction for coco because there’s so damn little of it but you’re worried about screwing up the culture because you’re not the tiniest bit Hispanic
As some of
you know, Iâm a huge fan of Overwatch, specially all the amazing effort
Blizzardâs team had on character design and development. They have very
interesting designs, characteristics and unique personalities. Not to mention
they have a double care to create a multi-national and multi ethnic group of
heroes. The same goes to my compatriot, LĂșcio, the Brazilian DJ and a lovely
support hero.
As far as I
can see, they traced a very nice character with very precise and even natural Brazilian
characteristics. Look at his full name: LĂșcio Correia dos Santos is a very
common name and sounds very natural to heard to us, differently from many other
Brazilian characters in other games (Iâm looking at you, Tekkenâs Eddy Gordo).
He also carries many of the carioca style
on his voice manner (even more in the pt-br dub, since his VA here is from the
same city) and, most of all, heâs a reliable character and carries his nationality
nicely. Just look at his main colors: yellow and green (with blue details), all
the colors of our flag, combine so great that doesnât sound rude at all. Heâs
true to his favela origin and is a party lover who loves to cheer everyone
around him.
With all
this, I looked at his frog tattoo and found it⊠curious, to say at least. It
reminded me of something from my region. But, I wasnât sure if the Blizzard team
would go THAT FAR to characterize him.
But then I
received my Art of Overwatchâs artbook (really good artbook, but, I recommend
it) and when I was reading about his conception, I read this:
â..they
based his frog symbol on the giant monkey frog, a bright green amphibian from
the Amazon basin thatâs used in traditional healing ceremonies.â
This frog
in specific is on the origins of a very popular amulet from where Iâm from: the MuiraquitĂŁ.
This amulet
(that from the native language can be translate as âknot of treesâ, usually
craft on greenish stones like jade and nephrite or even in woods, is an old artifact from the Low Amazon Basinâs Indians, like the TapajĂłs and Konduri to represent
different kinds of animals, like fishes, turtles, but mostly frogs). The first
reports about they are waaay back from the 16th century, back from the Portuguese
Colonization period of Brazil.
This region right here.
According
to some historians, the TapajĂłs women used this amulet to prevent diseases and
infertility. As an extension of the original monkey frogâs curative properties
they used.
Nowadays,
this amulet can be found as a pendant and illustrate many decorative objects
around my regions, usually sold as a souvenir.
Ultimately,
Iâm utterly happy to see an amulet from my region (so far away from LĂșcioâs
hometown, Rio de Janeiro) being used on his design to reinforce his healing and
cheerful personality and style. Overwatch dev team, have my most sincere gratitude and praise.

A few days back on AO3 I found an unfinished, two chapter spideypool fanfic that was cute and had lots of potential and was also last updated two years ago. Two whole years! And it had only three comments, all of which on chapter one, none on chapter two. I enjoyed the fanfic, despite it being far, FAR from being finished and the chance of it ever updating again anytime soon was just about zero. So you know what I did?
I wrote a damn comment. On chapter two.
And I made sure that fucker was long and had a small theory of where I think the author would take the fanfic in the future. I let the person behind the fic know that I friggin LOVED the two chapters I got to read! That I would LOVE to see more! That Iâd jump out of my skin in happiness and virtually hug them half to death if I saw that they updated it.
Let me remind you this fic wasnât updated in two YEARS! I was the first to comment on it in a year. And the first to comment on chapter two! And you know what happened today?
I got a reply.
From the author of the fanfic.
And the author said how I gave them life for a project they had loved (still did) and that they were now working on a third chapter.
After two YEARS of not updating. Of not writing. And it makes me so friggin happy seeing what I did. What I caused.
With a single. Damn. Comment.
All that it took for me was to think a bit about what I wanted to tell the author and the comment it. All it took was one comment. And suddenly this person was inspired to continue a fanfic they had abandoned for TWO YEARS!!
I couldnât be happier. I couldnât be more proud.
Comment on peopleâs fanfics. No matter how few chapters there are. No matter how many years have passed since their last update. Comment. You like a fanfic? Comment on it. Itâs that easy.
I went from bedtime story to bedtime fanfiction, which was not what I was expecting as a kid.
i never realized how true this was until I read this post
