Grandmother Raven didn’t give two shits if the Spiral died right then and there. She didn’t care if millions of lives were lost. Like damn.
I hope it’s ok if I add to this post because I absolutely love this bit of dialogue.
While I don’t think Grandmother Raven is completely ‘evil’, I do think she’s developed arrogance because of her status.
Cob admits he’s petty and pretentious- he’s a divine god, and Raven is his equal (and so is bartleby, but we’ll get to that later). While she is definitely wise and motherly, she’s not beyond breaking maternal morals. I think the reason why she stole cob’s heart was to originally benefit the Spiral. Perhaps now, seeing that plan didn’t work and he’s still around, she might be thinking, for lack of better words, “fuck it, i’m a god, it’s not my problem. I already tried for you fuckers, he’s your problem now.” And to her that makes perfect sense because SHE IS A GOD, why SHOULD she care what happens to us?
If this is the case, then KI has three deities that fit the three moral codes: Old Cob represents total chaos and destruction, Raven symbolizes the grey area with blurred morals, and then Bartleby, who symbolized purity and peace. From what’s happening currently with the arc 3 story, this set up is amazing and I hope KI utilizes it to toy around with our wizards state of mind and morals.
But back to my main point- i know this post is talking about Raven’s morals, but let’s look at Mellori for a second. God I love what they’re doing with her. Ok, so obviously Cob has his children, rat, scorpion, and bat, and obviously they follow their father’s every command.
Mellori just the exact. same. thing. Remember how I said Raven might have developed this hierarchical arrogance towards the common folk of the spiral? Mellori follows this mentality. She obeys her mothers commands literally akin to how cob’s kids do to his.
The scary thing here is that our wizard got to know Mellori first. We thought of her like a younger sibling, someone that reminds our wizard of what we used to be- a novice wizard with high hopes.
After revealing herself and her intentions, our wizard is faced with a very, very dark situation. On the one hand, we now know that we were basically lied to by several people about who she was, and now are facing massive trust issues. On the other hand, our wizard might be in denial of Mellori’s intention because of the former bond we had with her. Because of her kidnapping, we are now stuck between thinking “Yea she lied to me, as well as a lot of other people i thought i could trust, but i still have an emotional bond to her because of our adventures, and I really, really want to get her back because perhaps then she can see that she’s wrong about common folk being disposable because I cared enough to come save her”
But the catch is Mellori will never understand that. Like I said, Cob’s children do what he wishes because they’re basically an extension of him. THey have no free will. Neither does Mellori- she’s an extension of Raven’s on arrogance.
The scary part is that our wizard’s too emotionally invested in saving the spiral to think of this and it will ultimately be our demise- unless Morganthe comes back.
I know, “oki, why you always gotta make it all come back to morganthe?” and it’s because it’s one of the prerogatives for being an aged tumblr user, I can be as absurd and repetitive as I want.
I’ve said in previous theory posts that our wizard’s life mirror’s Morganthe’s life very closely, especially in Khrysalis Part 2. One aspect in how simialr we are is our trust amongst others. Morganthe trusted Malory to return alive, he didn’t, she trusted Merle as a teacher, he abandoned her, she trusted the shadow magi to teacher her astral/shadow magic, and only the creator knows what they did to her in the ‘testings”.
All of that being explained in another post, long story short- Morganthe knows Old Cob. If i’m correct about him controlling her in some way or another, she knows his mind, she knows his kids, she knows shadow magic. The arachna didn’t lure her into being shadow queen for no reason- she was smart, powerful, and skilled.
If Morganthe returns, she would be the only one that actually understand an iota of what our wizard is going through, so she could snap us out of our fog. She could be the one to say “dude, here’s what’s going on, and here’s how you’re gonna handle it”. Cob states openly to us that We are the child of light, and she is the child of shadow. Light and shadow working together is what evokes a true balance, when ONLY then can evoke change. What the spiral needs is that change.

Ok so apparently Cyrus wasn’t interested in Magic until an “uncanny witch from Polaris” defeated Malistaire in combat.
Guys. Baba Yaga probably obliterated Malistaire and Cyrus was so hysterical about it that he wanted to learn conjury just to rub it in Mali’s face for the rest of his life. I cannot believe this.
