i could definitely see some variation of this happening. i feel like it would go more along the lines of billy and steve (or at the very least steve because billys a harder nut to crack) start opening up to each other when theyre alone and theyve become more intimate, more vulnerable around each other. talking about things they wouldnt share with anyone else. and then one day, whether it be after practice or just somewhere at school, billy and tommy are doing their usual ragging on steve and steves had enough. he knows that this is billys way of covering his ass but he’s just so done so he starts retaliating and standing up for himself. things escalate and eventually billys throwing out things steve has said to him in private and using them against him. billy can tell by the look on steves face that he crossed a line, if the low “fuck you” wasnt already doing it. for a split second billys face falls because he’s terrified he just ruined everything but its not like he can run after steve right now and apologize so he just stays back and continues to play the role of worlds biggest dickhead.
steve wont talk to him for weeks after, they have a huge fight. its real bad
when you spend your days thinking about possible headcanons for s3 Billy/Harringrove but then suddenly realise that the likelihood of any of it becoming reality is slim to none and that Billy is probably going to sleep with a middle aged housewife n then he’s also, more than likely, gonna die without any exploration of his characters issues or back story and ultimately will just be a dead-end character that had no real purpose or meaning
“34 years he has taught me.
As a teen I was troubled and hurt those around me because I didn’t want to acknowledge that I was being hurt. He helped me see, learn and become a better person.
34 years he has put up with me.
I was stubborn, still am, but when I resisted and pushed away he was still there waiting for me even when I was ready. Of course we fight. Any couple does. But at the end of the day we always end up in each others arms.
34 years he has loved me.
Loved me like no one else has. For years I had been alone and had no one. But since meeting him I haven’t been alone.
34 years he has stuck by me.
Each time I fell he was there to help me back up again. Open arms and a smile I am so familiar with.
34 years I have loved Steve Harrington and he has loved me.”
While, given the info that we have, it is very much possible that
Billy isn’t racist, there is an equal (if not higher) possibility that
he IS. So interpreting Billy as racist is VALID and it also fits with the interactions we see on the show, since they are ambiguous in that regard.
At the same time, we need to stop treating racism like an inborn, unchangeable trait.
Racism is a LEARNED behaviour.
Which means it can be UN-learned.
And replaced with better, tolerant behaviour and thought patterns.
Also, racism
is a base motif for harmful actions, similar to greed or jealousy
(though unlike these often part of a wider systemic pattern) and so, if someone wants to change, they need to take responsibility for their past actions.
Which means putting in a lot
of hard work to make amends and eating quite a bit of humble pie.
What Antis think shipping Harringrove is like: Billy abusing Steve, mentally and physically. Billy being a psycho 25/8. BIlly literally MURDERING STEVE while the kids watch or some shit.
What shipping Harringrove is really like: Hurt/Comfort. Billy going to Steve after a really bad fight with his dad. Billy actually being really book-smart and helping Steve with homework. Them being quippy sarcastic assholes to one another because that’s just how they flirt. Locker room sex. Car sex. Steve making Billy apologize to Lucas and the kids. Billy really actually wanting Steve to like him and be his friend. Helping each other come to terms with their sexuality. Movie dates. Snowball fights. Steve getting Billy out of a shitty home situation. Drunk sex. Listening to music. Steve gravitating towards Billy once Nancy and Jonathan get together for good. Protective Billy. Protective Steve. Princess. Surprisingly cute, adorable. fluffy moments where Billy is actual a human being and not just an irredeemable asshole.
