I have this really strange head-cannon that Tony unwittingly gets invention ideas from Peter.
Like, Peter is over at the New Avenger’s facility one day and goes to turn on his bluetooth headphones. But they immediately die. So he gets pissy.
Peter: Oh my god, are you serious!?
Tony: What’s up, squirt?
Peter: My headphones are dead. Ugh, they’re going to take like, an hour to charge. I seriously need insta-charge for these things.
And of course Tony is just like…
Tony: …I can make that. Easy.
And then he ends up making the product and patenting it in like, a day. But he doesn’t care about the revenue it brings in so he tells Pepper to throw it in a savings account for Peter’s college.
Avengers AU – If Tony was Peter’s biological father
Tony is super protective of his son. And Peter, inspired by his dad, becomes Spiderman anyway (his dad and his Uncle Rhodey figure him out in a second though).
One of the reasons that Tony is hesitant to take on the role of mentor with Peter is because of Obadiah Stane.
We all know that Tony has a hard time trusting anyone and that he genuinely does care about Peter. But Obadiah’s betrayal not only as a business partner, father figure and mentor just shattered his faith in himself in that role for Peter.
Setting aside everything that happened with the Avengers in the Civil War, Tony really does care about Peter and taking on the role of mentor and defacto father figure scares him not only with Stane’s betrayal but Tony’s own lack of connection with his own father, Howard. So him embracing this role not only will help him heal from CW but helps him get passed Stane’s betrayal and Howard’s lack of parenting, and shows Tony that he can be that person that people can rely on not just as a teammate but as family.
