Because I was curious…and because seeing Sirius closer to the age he was in the books makes it at least 2x sadder.

How do you think the relationship between James and Vernon (and Petunia) was like the very few times they met? Could you paint me a picture of when they first met at the restaurant because I love James and I want to understand him more and you’re very good at it. Pleeeaasse?
Aw, thank you! But oh god now I don’t want to mess this up.
Firstly, I’m trying to figure out why they met because I always figured Petunia pulled and Elsa and shut Lily out completely. But I suppose they felt obligated to speak for the sake of their parents. So my take on it is, I figure Lily loathed Vernon and couldn’t understand what her sister saw in him, but she put on her big girl pants and interacted with him as she needed to. That being said, I’m sure Lily ranted about her sister but especially Vernon quite a bit to James and he was probably curious to meet him in the way that Fred and George were curious to meet Dudley.
So, as for the dinner that happened…From what we’ve seen from Vernon, he was probably rather smug and smartly dressed in his best suit, and James probably strolled in with his air of casualty and his messy hair, and you know, I have a very vivid picture of the way James walked and just sort of sauntered around with his hands in his pockets and I just think Vernon would have immediately disliked him. So I assume Vernon dove straight in to drilling James with questions and trying to figure out what he could about him, and I think James, as someone who probably could not care less about peoples socioeconomic status, which was all Vernon seemed to care about, might have found the whole thing rather boring and grueling but spoke honestly and would occasionally let words like “Quidditch” and “Hogwarts” slip and Vernon would have a mini heart attack each time he did and whip around to make sure no one was listening in on them and James and Lily were probably both biting their lips trying not to laugh but Lily did a better job hiding it because she had been through this before. And then Vernon asks what kind of car James drove, trying to push forward and discuss matters he could understand, and James might have just stopped trying to hold back and starting discussing his racing broom and Vernon became irritated with him and probably thought he was rather childish in comparison to himself and apparently he made a comment about wizards living on unemployment and James was probably annoyed and slightly offended by that and got a little cocky about his family fortune, although I figure James was sometimes uncomfortable about his wealth much like Harry was, but Vernon was getting on his nerves so I figure Vernon just kept turning redder and redder and James’ desire to crack up kept getting stronger and stronger but also his patience just kept wearing thinner and thinner and Vernon thought James was taking the mickey and felt insulted, and Petunia was offended, and Lily got quieter and quieter as the night went on and eventually James might have said one too many things and Vernon started to yell and Petunia led him out of the restaurant and Lily started to cry and James had his “oh fuck” moment and nervously ran his hand through his hair like he always did and tried to calm Lily down and promised her he’d set things right.
Then we know that James and Lily attended their wedding and I figure James was on his best behavior because he knew how important this was to Lily, but apparently Vernon ignored James and had made a comment about him being an “amateur magician” which James overheard, and I’m sure Lily heard it too, and I figure that was the moment she ultimately accepted that it just wasn’t going to work and admitted defeat and they left.
So in summary, I figure the idea of having to see each other stressed both parties out and James and Vernon were just so different, they were doomed from the beginning.
hurriedly and poorly attempts to contribute to James Potter’s birthday.
I’m not sure if you’e already answered this but you know how you did little headcanons for peter during his hogwarts years? Could you do one for James or Sirius? Thanks! (you’re a brilliant writer)
Sure!
James:
I did Quidditch headcanons here
- James had a crush on Lily for most of their time at Hogwarts but 6th year was when he actually started to develop strong feelings for her.
- He played guitar (not very well, but he could).
- He was the last Marauder to realize Lily fancied him.
- James wanted a whole army of children, having found being an only child rather lonely.
- He excelled in every subject aside from Potions and History of Magic, which he claimed he didn’t have a long enough attention span for.
- He bit his nails.
- He tapped his quill on the table, which drove Remus and Lily crazy.
- He had extremely warm hands.
- He made up nicknames for Lily mainly to annoy her, but Evans was the default.
- He had his father’s eyes.
- James always pretended to hate Lily’s cat but he secretly adored it and she caught him playing with it in fifth year and she gloated for a week straight. This led him to try to win the cat over and steal it’s attention away from Lily. He gloated about it until the day he died.
- James always stowed his wand in his back pocket and Mad-Eye yelled at him for it constantly.
- He was left-handed.
- James had a really hard time coping with death and dealt with it differently every time. When his father got sick, he found it hard to be in the same room as him and when he died, he was angry and trashed his dorm. When his mother died, he was quiet and empty, which everyone agreed was much worse.
- He was a total mama’s boy.
You can erase this but fyi I’m officially changing to Josh Bolt for Peter and there’s nothing you can do about it.
“Apart from my transformations, I was happier than I had ever been in my life. For the first time ever, I had friends, three great friends. Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, and, of course, your father, Harry ― James Potter. Now, my three friends could hardly fail to notice that I disappeared once a month. I made up all sorts of stories. I told them my mother was ill, and that I had to go home to see her…I was terrified they would desert me the moment they found out what I was. But of course, they worked out the truth…And they didn’t desert me at all.”
can you do Remus headcanons too?
- He was the tallest of the Marauders until James and Sirius hit their growth spurts in 4th year.
- He oozed sarcasm.
- He was generally the “quietest” of the group, but he was always the one with the quickest and wittiest remark and it would sometimes surprise people and Sirius, James and Peter would stand behind him grinning appreciatively. Sometimes his comebacks were so good people found themselves slow clapping without even realizing it.
- His school uniform was always straight and orderly for classes but the second he was done with dinner he would untuck his shirt and loosen his tie and undo all the buttons on his sleeves and sigh in contentment.
- He loved sweaters and had a collection of ugly ones because “they tickled him.”
- He cried when he laughed really hard.
- He would sigh really loudly if someone said something incredibly stupid.
- Being a werewolf caused him to be a few degrees warmer than everyone else (baby Harry loved this but that’s a whole different list of headcanons).
- He had really long fingers and eyelashes.
- He was the best of the Marauders at not getting caught and managed to get away with a surprisingly low amount of detentions in comparison (less than 10 in all 7 years).
- He could draw well.
- He got an unfortunate amount of headaches.
- His hair was always a rats nest when he woke up and he didn’t even bother with it on Sundays.
- He had absolutely no idea how to respond when a girl was flirting with him and was often completely oblivious to it.
- If someone said something funny and it caught him off guard he would do this squeaky giggle and was always embarrassed when he did so naturally it became a thing to try and make Remus giggle.
- He mastered the puppy dog eyes.
- He generally did a good job staying calm when he was angry but on the rare occasions he blew up it was scary to be around because it was so surprising to see him like that.
- He and Lily always got on well, becoming really good friends in 5th year. He was also one of the first people to realize Lily fancied James.
- He practically inhaled his food (I could say he wolfed it down but…). Everyone else would be on their third bite and his plate would already be clear.
- He slouched terribly.
- His smile made girls sigh.
- He would grin and skip around like a child when he was proud of himself or excited about something.
- The pranks he came up with were ironic and incredibly clever.
- He always won Exploding Snap. Always. Eventually people didn’t even want to play it with him anymore.
- Dumbledore liked to check up on him regularly and would invite him to his office for a cup of tea.
- He almost always finished his homework the night he got it and Sirius, Peter and James teased him for it but Remus always made a big show of lounging around and yawning widely while they were all rushing to get everything done last minute and they’d eventually start throwing things at him to get him to piss off.
“I ran away when I was about sixteen. I’d had enough…I hated the lot of them: my parents with their pure-blood mania, convinced that to be a Black made you practically royal…my idiot brother, soft enough to believe them…They thought Voldemort had the right idea, they were all for the purification of the wizarding race, getting rid of Muggle-borns and having pure-bloods in charge.”
Book Quotes: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry stared at Wormtail for a moment, then back at James, who was now doodling on a bit of scrap parchment. He had drawn a Snitch and was now tracing the letters L.E.
Hey :) I always see people asking you for marauders headcanons but I’ve never seen someone asking you ONLY lily headcanons? do you mind posting them? amazing blog <3
I’m sorry this took me forever to respond to
- Lily was a bit short tempered sometimes and her cheeks and ears would turn red when she was especially mad (James found this hilarious in earlier years).
- That being said, she was extremely defensive of her friends. She didn’t care if people insulted her but if someone said something rude to one of them she would be furious and it was best to get out of the way as fast as you could.
- The only freckles Lily had were just a splash across her nose and cheekbones and you could only see them up close.
- Her hair grew back really quickly and it pissed all her friends off.
- She developed her crush on James in 4th year and hated both herself and him for it.
- She adored Slughorn as much as he adored her.
- She was extremely pleased with herself whenever she was called “cheeky” or “smartass.”
- Lily and Peter favored rival Quidditch teams and bantered about it all the time.
- She was a Doctor Who fan and she locked herself in her room and refused to see anyone the first few days of summer holidays until she had caught up on the episodes she missed.
- Lily had a hardcore, draw hearts on the corner of her parchment, blush when he walked by, schoolgirl crush on Remus in second year but she got over it pretty quickly.
- I guess this would be considered “cliché” but she LOVED The Beatles. Lennon’s death was a low blow for her in the middle of the war because his music was something she found comfort in…and suddenly he was gone too.
- She also had a deep and somewhat guilty love for pop (ABBA especially), punk rock, and jazz (and I like to tie that into a headcanon that Remus was one of the people that helped sort through what was left of James and Lily’s house and he took some of her records…the one he was listening to when Harry walks into his office at the end of Prisoner of Azkaban was one of hers).
- She hummed to herself a lot but she could not sing to save her life.
- She would get in an obnoxiously good mood whenever there were the first signs of spring.
- She had shoulder length hair, give or take a few inches, and bangs up until 6th year where she started to grow it out and it made her look significantly older.
- She was a pimply mess in third year.
- She had baby cheeks that she loathed until 5th year.
- She loved to paint her nails bright colors (maybe this the Karen/Amy Pond face claim sneaking in but…)
- Getting her out of pajamas on the weekends on holidays was generally a lost cause.
- It was a tragedy when her stash of Honeydukes chocolate ran out.
- She was big into collecting Chocolate Frog cards until 5th year when she started to get annoyed that she kept getting the same cards.
- She hated pants. Her wardrobe was mostly skirts and dresses and she always got annoyed when someone made a comment about her being all dressed up because it was just what she found comfortable.
- She and Sirius bonded over family issues, even in their earlier school years when they weren’t exactly friends.
- She would not take shit from anybody and always stood up for herself.
- She preferred cooking without magic.
- She would paint a red and a gold stripe under each eye for the last Quidditch match that decided who won the Cup.
- She was generally laid back but she could be extremely competitive.
- She was very into Lord of the Rings and when she found out about Hogwarts she asked Severus if Dumbledore was like Gandalf and needless to say he was very confused.
- The first time she showed signs of magic that she could remember she and Petunia were playing outside and Lily accidentally trampled her mothers flowers that she had just spent days planting perfectly. Lily pleaded with them to stand up again and to her great surprise, they did.
- She nearly laughed herself to tears the first time she heard music from the wizarding world because people were singing about goblins and trolls in complete seriousness and she thought it was the most hilarious thing in the world.
…But my Lily constantly changes so I’ll probably look at some of these in a week and hate them.
