outofsanity;

I never realized before, but this feels like Aya’s tipping point in personality. Even though she had killed small animals beforehand and was already conditioned to view Alfred’s work as normal, I think this hints at her beginning to really lose grip on sanity.

As those of you who’ve played Mad Father know, this is the flashback/vision sequence telling her father’s story and how he started killing. In this particular diary entry, he talks about how one day he got angry with his mother for scolding him so he stabs her with a kitchen knife.

“…I stabbed her with a knife. Mother fell over. All red. It didn’t suit her pretty face. So I wiped Mother’s face. Her dead face was very pretty.”

In order to advance from entry to entry, Aya must reenact some of the events (ie – hiding the dead animals in the dresser while Mother is out). After setting the knife in young Alfred’s hands, she then has to clean the corpse’s face with a napkin. Above is her reaction afterwards and I think it’s easy to guess how the thought was going to finish if she hadn’t stopped herself.

Aya is beginning to like it. She doesn’t squeal anymore at the corpses, doesn’t react to the blood or what she finds. Not a peep unless she thinks her own life or her father’s is threatened. But most of all, she’s starting to see dead people–not just animals–as beautiful. In the next entry she even has to behead someone and while they aren’t real, it still should have prompted some sort of reaction.

I know that I’ve said it’s a headcanon of mine that the book Aya carried out with her at the end of Mad Father was tainted, therefore influencing her and forcing her down the same path as her father, but maybe even without the curse she would have killed people?
