Let’s ignore the fact that a lot of the people who support Concept!Art Mercy with Genji are POC, including Mlmoc themselves. And let’s call it fetishization when it’s really about lamenting missed opportunities and the desire to see a good, healthy, mlm ship between two men of color and not the current and gross disgusting incarnation of Gency we have in canon.

why do you think that concept art mercy would be any different personality wise to retail mercy? like, the same rules of being “abusive” or gross or whatever you guys call it for canon mercy would literally still apply. that is, unless you guys make excuses to allow black people to be abusive 🤔
I told myself I would not respond to things like this but I decided to with this one because fuck it.
What exactly makes the current incarnation of Gency gross? Let’s look at the arguments that are often used against it.
1) It’s a doctor/patient relationship, thus unethical.
This would not change in the slightest just because Mercy is now a big buff black guy. They are still doctor and patient, so that part of the ship wouldn’t change at all.
2) She weaponized him when she saved his life on Overwatch’s orders, and is thus satan.
This also wouldn’t change, the only difference would be that….she is now a big buff black dude instead of a small white swiss lady. Like??? This would still be how things were, is it only gross and abusive to you if the person who is doing the supposed “weaponizing” is white? How does the persons ethnicity or skin color or sexuality change anything about how anti’s use this point? It doesn’t.
3) It’s heterosexual and boring.
This one kind of speaks for itself. People are allowed to have preferences, especially minorities who have barely any representation. I literally do not care if you hate the ship purely because it’s heterosexual, but it’s not going to make me take your arguments seriously when you shit on the ship. You’re free to like and dislike whatever you want.
But yes, act like Concept Mercy with Genji would be a healthy relationship in spite of all the arguments you anti’s use against current Gency not changing in the slightest regardless of which design they went with for Mercy. They would still be doctor/patient. Mercy still would have been a part of saving Genji’s life and thus “weaponizing” him. Literally nothing changes other than it’s M/M. You can prefer this if you want, I don’t care, but don’t act like it would be any better or healthier than what we currently have with gency.
I’m done. Won’t be responding to any responses to this. People are entitled to their opinions and I really don’t want to get mixed up in drama, but I couldn’t just not respond to this one thing.
