But wait, there’s more!!

Great Ernesto, you made the sweet boy cry

Anyone got any suggestions for what his urban legend name would be? I was thinking something like “The Weeping Musician”. Idk man I’m not good at coming up with this stuff I just like drawing it lmao.

Anyways I’m gonna draw more of this soon, but exams might slow me down a bit 😥

What do you think about Ernesto?

a-little-ray-of-fantasy:

I personally think that he’s one of the best Twist Villains Disney/Pixar showed to date, maybe not to the levels of King Candy, but pretty close.
I guess it helps that all we knew about him was from the perspective of a fan (Miguel), so the twist worked better.

I usually feel pretty indifferent about twist baddies after they’ve revealed their true colors (Hans, Bellweather, Callaghan…), maybe because they kinda lose their charm after they spill out the beans (I myself am more of a fan of deliciously evil bad guys: they’re not realistically evil in any way, but they’re dang funny!)

But Ernesto? He’s actually clever: he killed Hector, and kept it a secret for almost a century, while at the same time boasting about it in his movies. It’s so disgustingly evil, that only a good amount of charm on his part could make that work, and I can’t help but applaud that.

And he was Hector’s childhood friend: the thought of someone killing his own brother figure just to get fortune and fame is absolutely despicable; Ernesto is a ruthless villain, and a well written one at that.

And that’s why he deserves everything bad happening to him! ^_^

Do you think that Miguel ever has the urge to just try and curse himself a second time to visit his dead family members?

upperstories:

I think the idea would cross his mind, but Miguel has also grown as a character from his experiences by this point. No matter how much he misses his dead relatives, I think a subtle theme of the film is understanding that your family never really leaves you, even in death. And even if you may grieve for them, miss them so much that it tears you apart, seeking out the Dead in such a way would only make you and your living family suffer.

So no, I don’t think Miguel would seek out getting cursed again. Not intentionally. He knows the consequences of such actions, and also how disappointed Héctor and Imelda would be if he ran off from his living family again, even if it was just to see them.

Rather, he’d try to focus on making his ancestors proud by being a loving son, a caring brother, and a passionate, hard working man. In fact, I think if he ever ran into someone in a similar situation again, like if he and his friends went off and did something that could bring on a curse (you know, dumb teenager stuff) he’d be very against it and try to stop his friends from doing anything stupid.

im-fairly-whitty:

“…[all the] kids in the orphanage, every year, travel with Papá Héctor across the bridge. It’s one of the favorite times of the officers who check ID- to see their former scapegoat corralling the mass of children while Imelda scolds and fixes newly sewn blouses and starched shirts and tells them to be on their best behavior while Héctor signs them all out.” – @humanityinahandbag

@humanityinahandbag and I pitched in to create a Héctor Tour Guide AU in which tour guide Héctor takes extra special care of all the children who pass over into the land of the dead. After Ernesto-the-trash-monster is out of the picture, the Riveras turn the palace mansion into a home for all the dead children who don’t have families to care for them.

[Also there’s a couple easter eggs in this illustration if you can find them. 🙂 ]

“My Coco..” 😔💔

UGGGGH this part of the movie gets me sobbing so much! 😭😭
It touches my heart to see how much Héctor loves and misses Coco.. ❤️😭

OMG I also freaking adore Miguel and Héctor’s reactions when they realize they’re related 😂❤️
Still mad at myself for not seeing this coming lol
