I’m grateful that for the most part, there isn’t bullshit like “Coco is only for Mexicans and Mexican Americans. White people/non Latinos don’t belong here” going on in this fandom. Like with some of the crazy shit I’ve seen in the Black Panther fandom (not all the fans. Just some).
Every time I see people asking to celebrate Day of the Dead and getting enthusiast responses of “yes!” It’s beautiful to me.
People sharing my culture and others asking for tips to make their art or writing accurate or respectful? Fucking amazing.
Thank you all so much for not being batshit crazy and treating each other like family.
As a white girl without a drop of Mexican blood in me, I was honestly afraid of creating content for Coco. But when I posted my fears, so many Mexicans encouraged me and told me to go for it that I got the biggest smile on my face and thrust myself into deeper into my Coco fanfiction than I had any other writing in years. (I need to rewrite it now, with the Coco novelizarion’s details debunking some of the headcanons I’d put in my story, but that’s besides the point lol)
Coco has an absolutely wonderful fandom, a fandom I’m glad to be a part of.
