What cheered Héctor up wasn’t that Miguel called him an “upgrade” comparing him from the murderous Ernesto, or that the boy’s different interest from their family came from him, it came from Miguel saying how proud he was that Héctor was his family. That at least two people in his tragic existence knew that Héctor still belonged. How long must it have been since he’d heard that?
